A Light In The Harbor will brighten Sandusky this Summer
A
Light in the Harbor is a public art exhibit featuring 28
lighthouses painted by regional
artists. Most of the lighthouses will be stationed in downtown
Sandusky, Ohio, with a sprinkling of nearby locations - Cedar Point,
Lake
Erie Shores and Islands Visitors Center, Sandusky Mall, and Starbucks
on Route 250.
The Lighthouses will be on display from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2008, and maps of the 28 Lighthouse locations will be available online and at the Lake Erie Shores and Islands Visitors Center and at the Merry-Go-Round Museum. Lighthouses will be auctioned at a charity gala in September at Castaway Bay Resort. “We hope the Lighthouses sell well at the auction. A lot of people have already expressed an interest,” said committee chairperson Joyce Leimbach. “Plus, there will be a raffle. Anyone can win a lighthouse with a $5 ticket.” A Light in the Harbor will benefit Red Cross, the Carousel Museum, and United Way. Artists submitted creative and unique proposals for painting the lighthouses. The names of business and philanthropist sponsors will be displayed along with those of the artists on plaques at each location. “A Light in the Harbor will be a beacon to bring people to our city and our downtown to see all the wonderful changes happening: new restaurants, new condominiums and our beautiful shoreline,” said Ron Rude, Executive Director of the Firelands Red Cross. “Bringing people downtown and raising awareness in all our downtown has to offer will be a great benefit, plus on top of that, we will be raising funds for three local charities! What could be better?” said Vicki Vanden Bout, Executive Director of the Merry-Go-Round Museum. |
